Bangladesh is a South Asian country and share land border with India in three sides. Only the south side of this country is open in the Bay of Bengal Ocean which has world’s longest sea-beach in the world. The world’s largest mangrove forest, world’s longest sea-beach, so many beautiful tea gardens, crystal clear water lake made the country unique and beauty queen in the world. There are so many tourist spot you can visit in this country. And most importantly this country is safe to visit no matter which country you are from. The food of this country is world famous. Though the food is a little bit spicy, but it is tasty as well. You will not find any better biriyani in the world than Bangladeshi biriyani. Another famous food of this country is Pitha. Me, as a Bangladeshi by born even don’t know the exact number of pitha of this country. So many delicious pitha are made in different season. But winter is the best season and Bangladeshi people make most pitha in this season.

Today I am going to share with you the beauty of Sylhet which is a northeastern district of this country. Fun fact is, this district has a border (Tamabil – Dawki) with India and the other side of this border is Meghalaya (state of India). If you are coming from Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) by road, you will be drop off in Kadamtoli Bus Stand. But if you are from another country and want to direct land on Sylhet, this city has an international airport (Osmani International Airport). Also, you can visit from India by Tamabil border directly.

Sylhet has so many places you can see. In this article I will explore some amazing tourist attraction of this amazing Sylhet. Malnicherra Tea Estate, Bichana Kandi, Lokkhonchora and Panthumai Waterfall today am going to express these places.

Malnicherra Tea Estate

From Ambarkhana which is in the middle of the Sylhet city corporation area, you can take a Rickshaw (local three wheeler transport) or a CNG (local auto rickshaw) to go to the Malnicherra Tea Estate. This is only 3 KM distance. This is the largest and the oldest tea garden in the subcontinent. Lord Hurdson establish this tea garden in 1849 on 1500 acres of land. This is truly a beautiful place that will melt your heart. When former US Ambassador Harry Thomas passing through the garden path, he said that the world is so beautiful that it is impossible to understand without seeing the Malnicherra garden.

Bichnakandi

Bichnakandi, also known as Bisnakandi, is a village in Rustompur Union, Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet District. Bichanakandi is 36 KM from Malnicherra Tea Estate and 39 KM from Ambarkhana. CNG is the easiest transport to go there.

Bichnakandi is a mixture of stone, water and cloud. You will see stone are laying here and there. And the water is actually coming from the waterfall from Meghalaya, India. The cold water from waterfall will wash all your tiredness within a moment. But if you want to see the actual beauty of this place, Rainy season is the best time. Crystal clear water and mountain around you will touch your heart with mental peace. One thing keep in mind, if you want to swim in this water, take a life jacket as a precaution. Don’t take any risk. Because the water flow is so strong.

This place is so close to Bichnakandi. After you have reached to Bichnakandi, rent a boat and tell the boatman to take you Lokkhonchora & Panthumai Waterfall (I will cover it below). This place is so close to India border and a pretty enjoyable tourist spot.

Panthumai Waterfall

As I told about this place earlier, the best way is to take a boat from Bichnakandi to reach here. This waterfall is actually located in a village named Panthumai and located near Indian border. The actual source of the water is Borhill Waterfall which is in the Riwai-Dawki road in Meghalaya India. Not only this waterfall, but the village is also a beautiful place to see. This is one of the most beautiful village in Bangladesh. You can visit here any time of the year, but as I told earlier Rainy season is the best time to visit here. Because in Rainy Season the waterfall will show you the actual beauty of a waterfall.

Don’t miss the Biriyani and beef kaala bhuna (a local beef curry) in Sylhet. This two food is crazily tasty. Happy Travelling!!!
